The Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administration, Masaryk University, invites applications for the following position:

Assistant Professor in Accounting and International Taxation

Masaryk University, Faculty of Economics and Administration, invites applications for a full time (40 hours a week) position of Assistant Professor in Accounting and International Taxation. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced candidate with a clear research profile, a strong publication record in reputable international journals, and an established network of collaborators at leading European universities. Research expertise in accounting, international taxation, financial reporting, management accounting, or related areas is required, while expertise in accounting information systems and digitalisation in accounting will be considered an advantage.

The position is designed to enable the candidate to pursue and further develop their research agenda in the aforementioned fields. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to ongoing research activities, initiate new research projects, seek funding opportunities, and publish in internationally recognized peer reviewed journals. Active participation in teaching is an integral part of the position. The post is suitable for both promising early career researchers and more experienced academics seeking to further develop their research and teaching profile at a reputable university.

We are looking for a candidate:

  • A full time Assistant Professor with a PhD in Accounting, International Taxation, Finance, or a related field.
  • With the ability to teach and communicate effectively in English; knowledge of Czech is considered an advantage (knowledge of Czech language is not required).
  • With relevant academic and research experience appropriate to the position.
  • With a developing or established publication record in reputable international peer reviewed journals.
  • With experience in, or demonstrated potential for, research grant applications and participation in research projects.
  • With an active or developing network of international research collaboration.
  • With an interest in contributing to the long-term development of the faculty.
  • Experience in accounting information systems, AI and digitalisation in accounting is considered an advantage.

What does the position entail?

  • Publishing in reputable international peer reviewed journals in the field of accounting, taxation, and related areas.
  • Contributing to research activities and collaborating within research teams.
  • Supporting the research and teaching activities of the department.
  • Participating in the preparation of external research grant applications.
  • Teaching bachelor’s and master’s courses, primarily in English, with a workload of 8 to 12 hours per week.
  • Supervising and reviewing bachelor’s and master’s theses.

What do we offer?

  • A full-time (40 hours a week) Assistant Professor position at one of the highest-ranked universities in the region of Central and Eastern Europe.
  • A 3-year initial contract (with possible extension and tenure).
  • The monthly salary starts on 70 000 CZK (approx. 2800 EUR) before taxes and depends on qualification and seniority (gross average wage in the Czech Republic is around €1800/month, median wage is €1500/month; your salary will be burdened with 20 – 25% income taxes). In the case of meeting the annual goals, the employee is entitled to bonuses.

The Department of Finance is part of the Faculty of Economics and Administration at Masaryk University. It offers study programs in Czech and English at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. The department pursues both fundamental and applied research, with a particular focus on corporate finance, accounting, financial markets and institutions, and financial risk management and modelling. In cooperation with industry partners, it also contributes to the development of innovative technological solutions, and analytical methods.
